New Construction Plumbing
There are so many decisions to make when building a home and the plumbing system should be integrated into the earliest aspects of the design. The most vital part of plumbing installation occurs behind the walls or even under concrete in a basement.
For this reason, it is highly recommended to contact us in the planning stages. We work with the builder and/or the homeowner to make sure all systems are installed easily and efficiently. Knowing the local building codes is part of our job so that there are no surprises along the way. Our licensed plumbers keep abreast of Illinois Plumbing codes through continued education each year.
Water Heater Installation & Repair
Conventional Water Heaters
A conventional water heater stores anywhere from 20 gallons to 80 gallons in most homes. Hot water is released from the top of the tank when you turn on the hot water at a faucet or in the shower. This water is then replaced with cold water at the bottom of the tank so that the tank is always full. Water is heated from either a natural gas, propane, oil, or electrical source and the stored water remains hot even if nobody is using water in the home.
Tankless Water Heaters
Also called “on-demand water heaters”, tankless water heaters only heat water when activated, such as turning on the faucet. A gas burner or an electrical element heats the water, usually at a rate of two gallons to five gallons per minute for electrical. Gas burner tankless water heaters have a slightly higher output than electrical.
When Hoveln Heating & Cooling, Inc. installs a water heater, you can count on it being done properly to maximize its energy efficiency. A trained plumber knows to take into account factors such as fuel type, the Central Illinois climate, local code requirements, and safety before beginning installation.
Though most water heaters go years or their entire lifespan without needing plumbing repairs, Hoveln Heating & Cooling, Inc. is available around-the-clock to take care of any water heater issue. Water heater leaks or burst? Call Hoveln! We'll get the hot water flowing again in no time.

Common Plumbing Issues
Most plumbing issues involving water take place in the bathroom and kitchen in a home. These issues can be as simple as a dripping or leaking faucet, sink, or shower head to as complex as the shut off valves not working. When you call a plumber from Hoveln Heating & Cooling, Inc., rest assured their ongoing education and certifications keep them up-to-date in best practices and approaches for any plumbing issues a home may have. Other issues we’ve inspected and repaired include:
- Water leaks around the base of the faucet
- Outdoor faucet drips or leaks into the basement
- Water on the floor
- No hot water
- Low water pressure
- Waterlogged pressure tank
Common Service for Toilets
Toilets in a home account for up to one-third of the overall household water consumption. With this much water flowing through them, a small issue such as phantom flushing or leaking can tack on another annoyance — a bigger water bill each month. Hoveln Heating & Cooling, Inc. will troubleshoot and find a solution to any toilet issues you may have, including:
- Toilet not flushing
- Toilet leaking between the tank and bowl
- Not enough water in the bowl
- Water shut off valve won’t shut the water off to the toilet
Other Plumbing Issues
Two of the most common additional plumbing issues we’ve provided plumbing repairs for are when a sump pump quits or a home water softener doesn’t regenerate. A sump pump is like insurance — you hope you never have to use it, but keep it just in case. These behind-the-scenes workhorses sometimes develop issues after a power failure, the discharge pipe becomes clogged, from a lack of maintenance, and/or old age.
A water softener regenerates by cleaning the resins inside with brine water, flushing out the hard minerals accumulated in the resins. This process is started when the control valve of the water softener gives the go-ahead to start cleaning the resins. If the control valve goes bad or otherwise develops an issue, regeneration won’t take place. Often the cause is a simple electrical issue or reset, or the valve needs replaced.
